In 1841 John Neely Bryan built a single log cabin in what would become Dallas. then he went to a town north of Dallas called Birdsfort. He wanted the people of Birdsfort to come live with him in Dallas. In 1870 a railroad came through Dallas, imagrants from Swiss, England, and Germany and started up companies. The orgin name of Dallas is unknown. Candidates include Gorge Mifflin Dallas, vice pres of the U.S navy, and Joseph Dallas who settled near Dallas in 1843.
